In 2012, Doug got bit by the search bug and he's still trying to keep up. From full-text search, to Learning to Rank models, to search agents that generate their own code, he knows the endless landscape first hand. Yet Doug wants to deeply understand the what / how / why, and help teams use these technologies practically, distinguishing hype from reality.

He’s led search at Reddit, Shopify, and Wikipedia, authored Relevant Search and AI Powered Search, and advised 100+ organizations over the years - all in pursuit of the same question: how does search actually work?

Hugo and Doug have created a really comprehensive and high ROI course, covering agent loops and their limitations, how to do comprehensive sets of evals, guardrails on harnesses, and more. Seeing the application of RAG, MCP, evals and deployment to an e-commerce project really improved my understanding of how to build production AI agents, their failure modes and diagnostics. I also appreciated the hands-on opportunities to work on our own projects with the course learnings, and it was cool seeing people present their work.

To be honest, I expected it to be more of a superficial introduction to the topics, but Hugo and Doug did a great job explaining the fundamentals and going a bit beyond that. I especially enjoyed the practical exercises because they matched the theory very well and helped make the concepts much clearer. Overall, I found the course very useful and valuable.
